Not saying it isn't surmountable, but gee wigglies is it dense! Character creation is top notch and the graphics in this game are stellar (no pun intended). The devs are to be commended. Actual gameplay: upon finally completing my lengthy introductory tutorials with Aura I took my first career assignment (explore space for anomalies) and it's here that I'm really getting a sense of just how vast this experience is. Well, that coupled with not being entirely sure what I'm doing, but that's all part of the journey, yes? It's probably because so many other games offer quick gratification, even on the more lengthier fetch quests etc, but it's apparent that EVE is truly a timesink of great magnitude, both by design as well as necessity. Do I like it so far? Yes, actually. Will I subscribe after my 14 day trial has expired? That remains to be seen, as I simply don't have oodles of free time -the kind of free time that this game necessitates- to dedicate to this, and as such can't see paying a monthly fee for something I'll be sporadically revisiting. I know that EVE is one of the few holdouts left that is using a subscriber platform as opposed to free-to-play, and I can appreciate their decision to do so. For a casual gamer like me, it's got me on the fence. But what a lovely, lovely fence it is. Still have a week and a half to make my determination, so we'll see just how deep this game gets its hooks into me. This will either be a bad thing or a good thing. Wish me luck.
Welcome to EvE.
The game doesnt actually *need* oodles of free time, and character afvancement - skill points - happens even when you're logged off, so it's entirely possible you could log on for an hour, tweak a skill queue and blow up a couple of rats, then log on again a couple of nights later and scan something out.
Oh, if you like scanning, its essentially the same process to scan out where other players are in the system, which can be used for anything from finding a mission runner for ninja salvaging, to finding where that enemy fleet went. |
